About Me

My name is Aengus. It's an Irish name - the Celtic god of love and beauty.
I grew up in Battersea, South London in the 70s and 80s.

For most of my life, music has been the medium for my creativity, expression and general tinkering. I have made my living as a cocktail pianist, conguero, club DJ and live sound engineer. However, visual art has always been there too.

The first time I drew or painted was in primary school. They used to call me the shader because of the way I liked shade in with the pencil, to give depth and shadows to things.

My first painting, that I loved to go and find in the Tate museum, was Roy Lichtenstein's "Whaam!" I was drawn to the vivd block colours. I was obsessed with film merchandise and in particular ET. Also, computer games were new. And everybody's street fashion was in visual bloom.

When I started to paint again in my forties, I needed it to be a simple therapy to unwind from life and music production. And so I discovered I could take any photo lying asleep on my hard drive and bring the memories back to life!

This is now the drive in my work. All my memories and holidays from around the world.
Hopefully some of those will be recognisable to others.
